Do you know about pre-diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease in which the medicines and precautions are to be taken lifelong. Type 1 diabetes has no cure. The patient has to take dosages of insulin on a regular basis. Type 2 diabetes can be controlled by changing diet, regular workouts and alternative medicines. Gestational diabetes has ill effects on infants, not much on the mother. After delivery, the body starts to heal itself. Depending upon the degree of effect, it may be healed completely. There are natural food supplements available in market to ease gestational diabetes.

What is Pre-diabetes? – The majority of the people with type 2 diabetes have pre-diabetes.  It means their blood sugar level is higher than normal but not high enough to come under diabetic tag. This is a stage when the body starts resisting to insulin.  Don not takes this condition lightly. At this stage also, the cells of the circulatory system and heart are affected. It is a warning that your body is getting affected and you are soon going to be diabetic. Consult your doctor and start medication right away.

How to determine your stage? - Patients generally experience frequent urge to urinate, extreme thirst and hunger. Doctors can determine by the tests whether you have pre-diabetes, diabetes or neither of them.  If the results of A1C test are more than 6.5%, it means you are diabetic. The numbers between 5.7% and 5.99% shows you are pre-diabetic. If the results of the fasting plasma glucose test are more than 126mg/dl, it means you are diabetic. The numbers between 100mg/dl and 125.99 mg/dl shows that you are pre-diabetic.  If the results of the oral glucose tolerance test are above 200 mg/dl, it means you are diabetic. The numbers between 140mg/dl and 199.99 mg/dl, it shows you are pre-diabetic. Take alternative medicines for diabetes to prevent the situation.

Sometimes it is difficult to access the right amount of medication - As per a study; older adults are often over treated for diabetes. Most of the diabetes drugs are given to lower the sugar level in blood.  These are harmless. But with growing age, it becomes difficult for patient’s body to bear the effects of them.  Sometimes doctors prescribe them alternate medicines for diabetes. If the dose of insulin is high, the person can collapse.  If sulfonylurea (alternative drugs) is too high, the person can be unconscious or even dead. It is not always easy that how much medicine and at what time it is required by the adult patients.
